Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is in Tehran once again as part of his country's efforts to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington.
The Pakistani minister is reported to have been carrying a message from Pakistani army cheif Field Marshal Munir to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.
Naqvi traveled to Tehran in April alongside Pakistan’s army chief on an official visit. He subsequently made two additional official trips to Iran in late May and early June.
It was later reported at Saturday midnight that at the end of his meeting with Pakistani Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni stated,P"akistan is a very large country and we have a religious and cultural shared history and many commonalities with each other. Pakistan is our friend, brother and neighbor. Meanwhile, the Leader referred to the cultural and historical commonalities of the two countries in his first message."
Referring to the high volume of exchanges between the two countries, he said, "Part of the Pakistani Interior Minister's visit is dedicated to bilateral issues, including border security, the fight against drugs and combating terrorism."
Momeni added: "Good decisions were also made in the economic field and it was decided to increase the volume of exchanges between the two countries from the current $3 billion per year to 10$ billion per year. Of course, achieving this goal will be possible with the support of other ministries of the two countries."
Stating that in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan the venue for the meeting of ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, the positions of the two countries were very close, the Interior Minister continued: "I appreciate the active role of the friendly and brotherly country of Pakistan in mediating the reduction of tension between Iran and the United States."
Following the meeting, Pakistani Interior Minister Naqvi said: "Iran and Pakistan have brotherly relations and when a problem comes forward for one brother, the other brother will also feel it. We hope that these crises will end soon with the efforts of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Army Chief of Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir."
Referring to the important message he has carried with him to deliver Iran,, Naqvi said: "I am here to deliver a special letter from Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal General Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif about the current situation to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution. I think this message is an important one. I hope everything goes well and ends well."
